We’re making our way through suspension and brake upgrades. For suspension we went with Superbeetle coilovers as helper springs. And for the front some slightly modified MarkI Golf Alibaba sourced coilovers. These were the LLM suggested (by training on loads of forum discussion data) cheapest ways to get the 924 to do the things we’d like for probably 20x less than “proper” racing parts.
So onto the fun bit – getting alignment sorted.
We’ll skip over the front of the car, because it’s going to look familiar to most folk, but the rear…well it’s a little more interesting.

So as we’ve done throughout the project, we were curious about LLMs and asked ChatGPT and Claude. And we received the following, not so clear response when asking for a diagram.

Translating things into 3D world seems to be the most consistent challenge now so this wasn’t a huge shock. What turned out to be much more cool was to start of using the string alignment method and then share some of the measurements, along with targets to get get a suggested number of turns for the tie rods? Still have to verify and check the final result, but if it’s off, it doesn’t look like much and beats the hell out of whatever we started to do here.
